Kieran Finnegan; your Waterloo Chiropractor & Myotherapist has 10 years experience treating low back pain, which their are many factors. One major factor is poor posture which is generally a result of muscle imbalances, primarily of the pelvis, hips & spine that cause’s the pelvis to tilt or rotate which may lead to pain and inflammation to a localised area of the spine, such as a joint or disc. Their is also lifestyle factors involved such as, lack of exercise, stress, anxiety, poor nutrition etc.
Low back pain can be felt as an dull ache or band tightness that spreads right across the low back, or it may also be felt more centrally over the spine. Low back pain can be felt more on one side or the other, less commonly it can switch from side to other. Occasionally low back pain may also be associated referred pain into the legs primarily from the discs, muscles and joints that affect the lower spine.
Most people feel low back pain first thing in the morning, which eases as they start moving around or after having a hot shower, alternatively it may progressively get worse as the day progresses. Holding static postures such as standing or sitting tends to fatigue and tighten the low back which causes a dull ache & stiffness also low back pain may be exacerbated by times of stress and anxiety.
